Just because most cat foods contain grains doesn’t make them healthy for cats. The grains, especially rice bran, can tie up taurine, which is essential to a cat’s health. Grain-free is better. Some veg may be included; in the wild, cats consume the entire animal, including the stomach and its contents, and get some veg there. Too much leads to obesity. Cats have extremely short intestines and food passes quickly. Meat is most easily digested and cats get all the nutrients they need from meat. The minimum percentage is 70%, but should be higher.
Buck’s right for once: cats are obligate carnivores. They subsist entirely on meat because their diet requires nutrients that are only found in animal flesh. Vegans (looking at you, Rob) who think cats should be vegetarian should not own cats because such a diet is harmful to felines.
Sedgwick and Jarvis could try the “wall follower” trick if the maze is simply connected, a topological term to describe a maze that consists of walls that are all connected to the outside wall. Basically, the maze is a tangled string, but if stretched out would form a circle, and by placing one’s hand on the right hand wall upon entering the maze and never crossing over (letting go of the wall to bypass a section), one will find the exit (which may be the entrance). However, if the maze contains “islands” — sections which are not connected to the outside perimeter, then the wall follower rule won’t work.
If you’ve ever observed penguins underwater, as in a biodome with glass revealing the watery domain, you will see that they indeed fly underwater. As the kid says, the motion is all flying and unlike the swimming of any other animal, be it fish, reptile, or mammal.
This happened to me about 20 years ago on the beach on Cape Cod. I’m a long-time fan of Orvis clothing and what do you know but a plane towing a banner flew across the sky advertising a big Orvis sale on the Cape that day. How’d they know? (It was a big sale indeed, and I picked up several items for 50% off.)
They say that the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. When we moved into our house 22 years ago, there were five or six shrubs about four fee tall separating our backyard from out neighbors’. Today there are six or seven trees up to 30 to 50 feet along the line and we can only see the neighbors’ house in winter when the leaves fall.
Great tribute and I enjoyed the slow buildup
