Like most of us, my family is made up of immigrants, but LEGAL immigrants. My great-grandfather respected the laws of our new country to apply, and receive, permission to immigrate from Canada to the USA in the late 1860’s. What I object to the the idea that Illegal Immigration by crossing the border in the dead of night is equivalent to those who respected the law of the land and came to the USA in accordance to the law. Every nation has the right and moral obligation to protect their borders. Even Mexico (usually) deports Illegals back to Guatemala or El Salvador when they are found. What’s wrong with the USA to do the same? It’s nothing about “racism”, the law is the law. It applies to all, or to none. My wife and I sponsored a athlete from Zimbabwe on her quest to become an American Citizen. She made it two years ago. The problem is that we have a paralyzed, bureaucratic immigration system that takes 15 years, a dozen lawyers (and $20,00!) for someone to legally apply to become a resident, then a citizen. That’s the problem!
