Someone actually not breeding or getting a dog might threaten a lot of readers who regret doing so. And the comic would have to explore the humor in other subjects, such as… as… the entire rest of the universe.
I enjoy this strip, and some others. But they could say, “No, let’s not have another baby or get a dog. That would be an irresponible choice” and go on doing funny things. But they never do.
He can’tbelieve his very own dog? Give him a few years of reading comic strips about breeding families: they are funny, but utterly predictable. When ever they’re considering having another baby or getting a dog, they always have another baby or get a dog.
Glorification of mommyhood, babies and dogs can still make for some fun strips, but they are still stereotypical, narrow in the world of the single and childfree, and flatly predictable.
Oh gee, I’m really glad I’m not a mommy;A mommy’s what I never want to beeeEEE;’Cause if I ever were to be a mommy,There would soon be nothing left of me!
