Increasingly, phone systems in call centers don’t have direct lines to reps that are accessible to the outside (but they have internal direct lines for office communication). It prevents the very behavior you are talking about.
Automated phone systems can be a pain, but I think it’s better than the old way where all you got was a busy signal until someone was available. When’s the last time you heard a busy signal?
Dang, a lot of people here don’t understand the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that can come with improving your skills at a challenging task. Any old fool can aimlessly wander around the woods. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
