I was born in the USA, but started school in England. The British do NOT put a period behind such contractions as “Mr” or “Dr” as the Americans do. The original contraction was an upper-cass “M” with a superscripted lower-case “r” — no period required. So, taking that as well as the size of the paper into account … they BOTH did it!
