Bus does seem to break the rule about doubling the final consonant, but it is short for omnibus, plural “omnibuses” because the last syllable is not emphasized. I figured this out this some years ago but just did some googling to confirm!

Not made up! But also not what Greenpeace did: “Sailormongering is the practice of boarding a ship . . . without the permission of its master, and inciting members of its crew to desert their posts and come ashore by tempting them with prostitutes and alcohol. . .” (Wikipedia)

For any who don’t know (and don’t see the other comments), this is rabies vaccine. There’s a decades-long program attempting to extinguish rabies in the US mammal population.

I did read about the rat contraceptive when I lived in a city, was very sad it was new and not available to the public!

I actually make a tasty chowder & a couple of good quick pasta dishes with it. I always have a couple cans on hand!

“But maybe you don’t git it.” — Don’t get that the mainstream press would rather that people/groups/institutions were not called out by name? That’s what I got.

“Her point was that his speech was too nice” – not at all how I read it. Her point was that the “mainstream press” would only be pleased by a wishy-washy don’t-blame-anyone speech.

I read it as expecting dealers to continue to steer buyers away from EVs & push gas-powered cars in a way that remains legal – the used market. I’m not sure about California recently, but I’ve heard stories of dealers making it hard to buy EVs.

Also, our 2004/263K Prius is making extremely concerning sounds that seem to be in the transmission, so we may be in the market for an EV sooner than we’d hoped!

The care cats give their own claws is fine if they’ll be catching mice & climbing trees. If they’re kneading my belly, I’ll do the trimming, thank you very much (as I will blunt rather than “sharpen” them!).

I generally avoid injury by providing lots and lots of treats during the process. Actually 2 of our cats don’t really care; the third screams like I’m torturing him, the 4th sometimes gets outside between her nights in the barn and days in the house (to protect our wild bird population) so her claws are sharp for her own potential protection.

WIN buttons were what, 50 years ago? (Just checked – 1974) We can only wish Trump were as far in the rearview mirror.

I do all three – cut, snap and peel! I cut them from the ground, snap them where they want to snap, and peel the lower part. I just made a stir-fry with this season’s first asparagus last night, and they all snapped at about the half-way point.
