It always cracks me up that Ralph’s snoring is ZZYZX. Zzyzx is an actual place, a few miles SW of Baker California and the location of a resort in Mojave National Preserve owned by the University of California Desert Studies Center. It’s a good place to see desert birds and occasionally Desert Bighorn Sheep. I can’t post a photo here, so if you’re interested, just Google it.

Sorry, I meant not east of the Mississippi for ACWO. There have only been 8 accepted records of Blue Jay in California since 2004 according to the California Bird Records Committee. I saw the one in 2006 in Fairfield, CA The other Jay we have in moderate to large numbers are Pinyon Jays. At any rate, you don’t find Acorn Woodpeckers in the Poconos and you have to be extremely lucky to find a Blue Jay in California.
