Well, they wouldn’t fall immediately. But as they ran into each other, some of them would end up slowed down enough to drop out of orbit. Check out Neal Stephenson’s “Seveneves” for a take on how that would play out.
It’s really no weirder than getting a scholarship for running up and down a court tossing a ball through a hoop. And like the more physical sports, it’s significantly about money and prestige: the 2018 League of Legends world championships drew 200 million viewers worldwide. Obviously not all (or even most) of those are Americans, but when you take into account that 72% of American teens play video games regularly you can see that it’s great focused marketing. (As for what they’re playing, the Fall games are Overwatch; Paladins, Champions of the Realm; Rocket League; and Smite, Battleground of the Gods. Spring sees Counter Strike, Fortnite, League of Legends, and again Rocket League.)
Depends on which IKEA furniture you buy. Yeah, the really cheap stuff is really cheap, but the stuff that isn’t made from particle board holds up just fine. The 5-drawer dresser I bought in…2004? is holding up just fine. Ditto for the dining room table and chairs and a few other pieces.
She really is a living embodiment of Poe’s Law.
