She really is a living embodiment of Poe’s Law.

Complaining is how you raise awareness of a problem.Plenty of people do care.To quote the article from a few years back: I don’t know how to explain to you that you should care about other people.

Except that Virginia and South Carolina weren’t annexed after a US-backed coup d’etat against the legitimate government.

Citation needed. For any of it.

The iPhone 12 benchmarks faster than any pre-2000 supercomputer. (iPhone 12, 2020, 2.1 TFLOPS. IBM ASCI Red, 1997, 1.06 TFLOPS. IBM ASCI White, 2000, 4.93 TFLOPS)

Also, I’m surprised Alex wasn’t smart enough to stay away from Packard Bell…absolute garbage.

Well, they wouldn’t fall immediately. But as they ran into each other, some of them would end up slowed down enough to drop out of orbit. Check out Neal Stephenson’s “Seveneves” for a take on how that would play out.

Nice! (And I hope she’s saving most of that up for when her reflexes aren’t quite what they are now.)

It’s really no weirder than getting a scholarship for running up and down a court tossing a ball through a hoop. And like the more physical sports, it’s significantly about money and prestige: the 2018 League of Legends world championships drew 200 million viewers worldwide. Obviously not all (or even most) of those are Americans, but when you take into account that 72% of American teens play video games regularly you can see that it’s great focused marketing. (As for what they’re playing, the Fall games are Overwatch; Paladins, Champions of the Realm; Rocket League; and Smite, Battleground of the Gods. Spring sees Counter Strike, Fortnite, League of Legends, and again Rocket League.)

@timbob2313 Yep. About 200 schools and $16 million/yr. Look up the National Association of Collegiate Esports.

Depends on which IKEA furniture you buy. Yeah, the really cheap stuff is really cheap, but the stuff that isn’t made from particle board holds up just fine. The 5-drawer dresser I bought in…2004? is holding up just fine. Ditto for the dining room table and chairs and a few other pieces.
