“God does not play dice with the universe. Instead He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which can be likened by the other players (ie everybody) to a complex and obscure version of poker played in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who refuses to explain the rules and who smiles all the time.”
My favorite argument against “intelligent design” is that any entity capable of designing a living organism really should have been able to do a better job.
More like the deck is hopelessly stacked. Pretty much every state is gerrymandered in favor of one or the other. Then there’s the issue of ballot access, where many states make it as hard as possible for anyone not a Republicrat to even get on the ballot. Plus both opposing any measure that might reduce their dominance.
Big V’s of them flying over in spring and fall? Majestic! But when they move in full time they’re just aggressive giant pigeons that float. The only thing worse is swans. At least as mean and even bigger.
Never had that happen, but I have been scared half to death a couple of times when I startled a flock into all taking off at once. The rattling noise just doesn’t sound like anything that belongs in the woods. And of course they know when hunting season starts. I’m pretty sure deer do.
Way to miss the point. Yeah, a state is an artificial construct. So is a nation. At the time America was seen as more of a confederation of independent states rather than mere administrative districts. It was possible then and remains possible today that federal legislation could potentially favor the interests of some states over those of others. So yes, giving smaller states a potential veto was indeed fair. The whole point of the American system is to prevent both a tyranny of a few over the whole and a tyranny of the whole over the few.
