“Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. And sometimes you cannot even quit the game.” – – – Workers’ Compensation Seminar in West Virginia, circa 1984
I just tell them that the guy they want to speak to passed away last week. After they express their sincere condolences, I ask them to update their records. It really works (except for the politicians).
Columbo attended my alma mater (Hamilton College) for one year. While there, he played on the baseball team. Once, after being called out at third base on a close play, Peter Falk stood up, took out his glass eye and handed it to the ump, saying “Here. you need this more than I do.”
I will be visiting Normandy in September, 2015. While I will be cycling Italy, visiting France, and otherwise seeing the sights, Normandy will be the highlight to me. Tremendous movie about it at the Smithsonian in D.C.
My previous dog knew when things were not going well for me. He would come over to me, no matter whether he was sleeping or in another area of the house, and sit by me. If I did not acknowledge him, he would nuzzle my hand. And if I still ignored him, he would put both paws up on my thigh while I was sitting, until I assured him everything was OK. Then he would walk back to his rug or pillow. Best dog ever.
LeftWing, it’s not. My all-time fav Doonesbury is coming up: “Hmm, this juice reminds me of my swimming days at USC” “Oh, you went to USC?” “Yeah; where’d you go?” “DKE.” “Um, isn’t that a fraternity?” “Yeah, but I’m pretty sure it was affiliated with a school.” LOL!
My favorite Doonebury of all time is coming up. Punchline: “Yeah, but I’m pretty sure it was affiliated with a college.” (Said by one football player to another, the first one claiming that he went to college at “DKE” while the second one went to USC.)
“No, I’m pretty sure it’s the reception, not my eyesight. But thanks anyway; I love you too.”
