My younger brother when he was about Calvin’s age asked our grandfather , who made his own plugs of chewing tobacco, if he could chew some. So our grandfather tore off a small piece of tobacco and gave it to him. My brother popped it in his mouth chewed for a few seconds and swallowed it, turned green ran outside and threw up. He never wanted to chew tobacco again, but when in high school he started to smoke.
The oldest granddaughter had one for awhile. One day her mother and my wife were discussing taking it away from her while we were all shopping. I just asked the granddaughter if she would give it to me, and that I wouldn’t be giving it back. She handed it to me and never ask for another one. I think she was close to 1 at the time.
I am retired and my income pays the bills and I have some left over. Me and the wife have enough to do most of what we want to, but that isn’t what makes me “rich”. We are both healthy and we have 6 wonderful grandkids. So I guess you could say that I am rich in the things that really matter.
Twenty-six this June. Got married on a weekend, just before the wedding the preacher was having the witnesses sign the license. Suddenly he came to me and said that he couldn’t marry us that the license wasn’t any good, that it had expired. I thought it was a joke that my brother, the best man, was trying to play on me. But no they had put the wrong date on the license and it was dated over 30 days and not the 3 days since I’d got it. After a frantic phone call we eventually were married that day if only 20 minutes late.
While my parents were living in Georgia my mother decided to return to Kentucky to her teaching job at the university. They already had a house here and were wanting to sell the one they owned there. My dad was driving by a house that had a pile of trash by the road and saw a for sale sign thrown on it. He stopped and picked up the sign took it home stuck it in the yard then left to go to the lumber yard to get some lumber to repair the deck. He was gone about an hour but when he came back the guy next door came over to tell him someone had stopped by to look at the house and would return in about an hour and a half. End of story he sold the house to the guy later in the week after the guy’s wife was able to look at it.
You are right as long as there is tension on the rope the knot will hold take the tension off and shake the rope and the knot will release. Mountain climbers use it all the time. But you must cut the rope inside the knot for it to work.
there is a reason they are called pine needles you know
