Berkley wanders into the weeds with this part of the strip. People really do have a free right to associate socially, which means if they don’t want to associate with people that don’t look like them and share their values, they can. It’s very basic and it’s expressed well in section 11 of the US Bill of Rights.

Back when this strip was published we’d blame global cooling, not global warming. In the 70’s and 80’s we were pretty sure we were on the edge of the next great Ice Age. Everyone was buying down underwear.
