You completely missed the point, and the joke. He’s not snubbing the Bible, he’s defending it against ignorant ridicule.
If that doesn’t seem to make sense when you reread it, then try again with just the first and last sentences. He’s saying that just because you don’t understand one passage, it doesn’t mean it contradicts another. A classic problem with the Bible is that people that aren’t familiar with it see contradictions where there are none.
I’m just curious which book of the Bible has 42 chapters, and a belief among critics that chapters 41 and 42 contradict each other. (Not all his jokes are that deep, but this one feels like it.)
