All military personnel pledge their lives in the service of their country. They are told where they may best serve in the frontline or the rear. Logistical paper pushers, that may have never been asked to carry a gun after basic training, are the unseen heroes. Those who serve and those who died at the Pentagon 9/11 are just as much a hero as those who fight on the frontlines.
When only given the position to chose only hard right or left, there is no middle. The middle is for the nuanced thinker. The longer I experience life, the more range of grey choices I see instead of just black and white options.
A gun is not a magic shield against people with bad intent. I fear to be around any person who is insecure, paranoid or frightened enough they feel the need to carry a “personal defense device” that is solely used to maim or kill another person. It is a weapon. Open carry is a away of intimidating those around you by signaling you have the means to hurt them what ever the cause. The modern way to beat your chest, scream and dominate another person.
No, I don’t “fear” LE and their open carry but I am intimidated then their hand rests on their gun. They have a tough job that can rightfully make them a little “squirrelly” when dealing with the public. I extend far more trust in them for the responsible use of gun when carrying out their law enforcement duties.
Once had to evict a possum the dog gifted me. Critter played dead then crawled under a chair recliner while I went to get a “body bag”. Ended up having to push the whole chair out the back door.
Gun manufacturers and NRA leadership have the best marketing plan. Lobby against any legislation that makes guns safer or difficult to obtain for reasons other than guns used for hunting wildlife. Own a gun for protection against all those people who might use their gun to kill or threaten you. Be a “good guy with a gun”. Protect the constitutional right to own a weapon that was created and continues to be refined to kill or maim. To quote Forest Gump’s mom, “Stupid is as stupid does” here in the USA.
Northern VA, so my search has been focused on the eastern side of the US. The National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors has given me a few leads on who to contact about repairs. Thanks for taking the time to look for a shop.
Yes, gears are all wooden. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find anyone near me capable of restoring it to working order. May have to take a crash course in clock works and wood carving myself to ever see it keeping time again.
