Yeah, Dez reminds me a LOT of an aunt of mine. She seems very sweet and calm and spiritual to those who don’t know her, but she’s actually one of the most manipulative people I’ve ever known. Constantly policing other people’s emotions and putting them down for any kind of anger or sadness that doesn’t conform to what her ideal of the situation is supposed to be. Growing up with that really screwed her kids up.
I’m not saying Dez is that bad, but I definitely see those tendencies in her.
“Better than the afterlife!” Mrs. Horner can never forget the depths of violence and depravity she explored in her travels, and knows exactly where she’s going when she dies.
Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, can’t stand Bets either. This whole dorm is toxic and even though I think Tiff herself has a long way to go as a person seeing her bail has me more invested than I’ve been in a long time.
But I’ve known people like Dez. That little move there, repeating what Tiff said with a little twist? 100% meant to make Tiff feel foolish and childish for being angry, even though she’s well within her rights to feel that way. And since Dez is always oh so calm and serene, she makes you feel like you can’t call her out on on this garbage, even though she’s as much to blame for this situation as anyone. She’s emotionally manipulative.
Perfect of example of why I can’t stand Dez right here…she’s consistently patronizing and dismissive of other people’s feelings when they’re not conforming to her whole deal.
It went south solely because of Bernice’s bizarre hangups, made even more bizarre by this whole ‘muse’ thing. Bernice is a bubbling cauldron of neuroses, like three steps away from SOME kind of full on breakdown. Honestly, on some level I think she’s laughing at Luann’s 13-year-old self because she’s pretty much still that same age emotionally.
“No, that’s Harrison Bergeron.”
“Hollywood Squares!”
“That’s Tom Bergeron.”
“Brother of Menelaus!”
“D*** it, that’s Agamemnon!”
