Greg, I don’t know where you live, but if people find out that you live in Ohio, you don’t have to be wearing anything in particular for others to assume that you follow OSU’s football plan. Never mind that it’s hard to avoid tripping over universities in this state, or that I went to school half the country away.
“Are you a buckeye?”“Yes, I am”“What do you think about their changes at coaching?”“… huh?”“Their new football coach!”“… I don’t think the Browns have a chance in hell this year. Or were you talking about the Bungles?”“… I meant OSU.”“Oh. No clue, I don’t follow them. I don’t follow the Browns or the Bungles, either, but hell, a sure bet is a sure bet.”“You said you were a buckeye.”“Yes, I’m from Ohio. It’s the state tree (despite there not being all that many of them, in comparison) and what we call ourselves.”“…”“You see, back when the indians and the white men blah blah blah…” [listener’s eyes glaze over]
It’s a great state. But it’s a whole lot more than a football team. And it’s a not-bad university. That’s a whole lot more than a football team.
I’m the other way around. Five o’clock shadow at 10AM. Beards look more respectable on me than shaving does.
