Funny…summer began at our house Wednesday morning after school finished Tuesday. One kid caught a cold (tested COVID negative…yay) and stayed in so she could rest up before her class trip to DC which they left for this morning. The other kid was home yesterday due to rain. Spent the day reading and building Lego stuff. Today she took off for the neighbors only to come home an hour later because neighbor wanted to play Roblox (a single player game.) So she turned on the tv and folded laundry with me. Next week the city pool opens and I don’t expect they will be home on sunny days the rest of summer. There are bikes to ride, playgrounds to explore, creeks to wade in, library programs, the ice cream stand…My kids only watch TV when the weather is crummy or there are chores to do.

I’m a hospital pharmacist. I feel your pain. “patient X did what?! Oh boy. Means Dr Y will be ordering ABC med that is in short supply.” Rinse and repeat. Love what I do, but sometimes you have to wonder.

My mom used Lollipop to try to teach a bunch of 7th and 8th grade school girls in Japan to pronounce the letter L back in the 70s when she was there. I grew up know that song despite it predating me by a bit.

Except we have CDs, cassettes, vinyl, a 120 yo typewriter, and 5 slide rules at our house. Plus floppy disks (5.25, 3.5, and Zip disks). Plus I keep calligraphy pens and bottled ink for sketching when I’m bored. Not luddites, but fascinated by history. Husband teaches software engineering and have two budding engineers at our house who want to learn to use grandpa’s and great grandpa’s stuff.

Because without a deadline, members of the forensics team will turn in 4-8 page papers. My kid had a writing prompt. 20 minutes of class time to defend or convict Aaron Burr for the death of Hamilton. Most of the class handed in 3-6 paragraphed. She turned in a 3 page essay. Her two teammates on the team got 5 and 6 pages respectively.

I remember our first computer. People thought my parents were crazy. 16K of RAM? What in the world do you need so much for? I also remember cassette tape drives. It was 1983 and I was in kinder.

Which is why the school where my husband teaches software engineering and comp sci has an annual “Bug Stomp competition.” Goal? Take deliberately buggy software and see which team or individual finds and fixes the most bugs.

There is talk of starting a junior version next year at our high school for the programming class my daughter is taking. Granted it’s just in Visual Basic to start, but moves eventually to Java and the rest.

If you haven’t tried it, don’t knock it. I had it at a Thai place. It is actually really good. Very Asian. It’s also common with adzuki/aduki bean paste.

Except if there was a road closure. Had that happen several times. Always picked up the local map with my triptick just in case. DH drove and I was navigator.

My daughter is crazy excited that I am taking a day off of work to chaperone her 4th grade field trip to the state capitol.
