I love this! While not even close to original to have an old character run the same plot as the original story, great to see Dot and having the spasmodic arm flailing allows 21st century comics curmudgeons see how crazy Dick Tracy really was.

The final panel is perfect. A new avatar for Avenger09 or another Gouldian take that all culture after 1935 has unknowable positive qualities to the older generations?

Wichita1.0 your comments are always entertaining, thank you for commenting when your stories are running. I’ve been waiting for the Dick Tracy / Josie and The Pussycats crossover, maybe this leads into the band with an unscrupulous manager like Bolo, the one The Gallstones had and require Tracy’s help getting out of an illegal contract. Perhaps this leads into the long awaited Scooby Doo crossover with the unforgettable moment, when captured, Shaggy tries to rip the bad guy’s mask off and exclaims “Zoinks! There’s no mask, this really IS a horribly disfigured villain” just before he and Scooby meet a Gouldian ending and ending their franchise.

I do not have enough vested interest in this, but didn’t Blackjack always rob banks with guns with blanks? He does not want to hurt folks. Could be a good call-back to how well Tracy knows Blackjack.

I was at a tech conference in San Fransisco at the peak of the dot.com (1999) and Apple was promoting their first version of the Apple Watch as something like Dick Tracy’s watch. You could not buy one and I don’t think it made it out of prototype for a loooong time.

Speaking as TheShrunkenHeadsofMrBribery, where are we? The room is dark and we have only seen light once since 1965.

Like, maybe it really happened like that.

Wow, someone got the reference. There were a lot of villains over the years, though I thought he was the scariest, cruel, murder raging psycho during my Dick Tracy era. By using him as a handle to be a modern day magpie, I was trying to bring attention to a character who, despite not being in the strip long and is mostly unknown and perhaps unnamed, brought a whole ‘nother level of chaos in 1975. Gould had some disturbing creative fire in him when he created that guy and alas, I have discovered potential zzwelz everywhere now and you are right, sounds like I red pill’d.

Sigh. This story had nothing going for it, then became rom-com interesting, then squandered the potential in the worst way possible. What is holding back the story telling?

Vera always looks happy to see DT as he was the primary screw up in 1975 being charged with murder then being kidnapped.
