It is indeed the ubiquitous saleslady from “Cathy”, and I suspect that the red-haired woman a few days ago (red hair, round glasses) was an older version of Margaret from “Dennis the Menace”.
The red-haired girl isn’t drawn in the usual “Luann” style, so I’m guessing “crossover character”. Hmmm…red hair…round glasses…somewhat squinty eyes and “sweat-fleck” in 2nd panel…could this be an older version of Margaret from “Dennis the Menace”?
Rockwell was, first and foremost, a commercial artist, and yes, those were indeed different times. As Billy Joel said, “The good old days weren’t always good…”
