As of June 2024, the National Wildlife Disease Program says there is a low risk of an outbreak of bird flu among wild songbirds and no official recommendation to take down bird feeders unless you also keep domestic poultry. However, some authorities have recommended taking down feeders during local outbreaks to prevent birds from gathering and getting the flu. Audubon also recommends removing feeders if a local wildlife agency calls for it.
Probably a scam. Electric companies don’t notify cutoffs by email but by letter. If you still have the emails look at the sender and it probably won’t be from your utility company but from some made up address.
