Interesting…the US must have been the first to shed English customs after the War of Independence – including streets named after the king, and of course the spelling of many words.
I graduated in 1958. We always had “surprise” quizzes on any day so had to do the homework. No regular study halls – only if a teacher was ill and absent. I just love the back and forth between Caufield and Mrs. Olsen. She is an archtypical 1950s teacher.
I was so glad to find Frazz on the web…my local Boston paper discontinued the strip last week to my complete surprise and consternation. Unbelievable!!
