Slavery didn’t end. Read the 13th amendment:

“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

Then you can start asking why America has the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world.

And why African Americans are disproportionately incarcerated.

Not to mention what kind of civilized nation has prison quotas? (The majority of private prisons have agreed to keep at least 90% of prison beds filled or pay a penalty to for-profit prison contractors.)

Then you can start researching things like redlining, the Tuskegee study, targeted voter suppression (17 states with 28 new laws this year alone), the 1985 police bombing of a Philadelphia neighborhood…

You’re right. You aren’t personally responsible for slavery. But if you ignore the massive disparities in civil rights and keep playing the victim because you don’t like these things pointed out, you’re part of the reason it’s so easy for these kinds of policies to continue to proliferate and devastate US citizens, families, kids, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers whose only crime was being born in a country built on dehumanization and oppression.

I love this. I knew the strip was gonna get good when Steenz took over, but I’m so happy to see how much life has been breathed into the world of Heart with the development of all these lovely characters. This strip <3

During the war in Afghanistan (2001–present), over 31,000 civilian deaths due to war-related violence have been documented; 29,900 civilians have been wounded. Over 111,000 Afghans, including civilians, soldiers and militants, are estimated to have been killed in the conflict.

Susan thank you for saying this. It makes me really concerned that so many people are working so hard in these comments to defend hitting children. There is NEVER a reason to hurt your kids! What the heck.

Normal sucks. Holy crap. Biden is pushing right wing economic policy already. If we are happy with normal we’re gonna be stomped on. America is the only country in the UN that voted against food as a human right. If we celebrate normal we’re celebrating our own death. Unless you’re already ultra-wealthy you have a responsibility to fight against Biden’s regressive politics.

JFC all the white guys crying here, did you know that you can have a “tough time” and still have it easier than other people?????? Stop using your own tiny set of personal experiences as justification to ignore the SYSTEMIC problems built into our country’s economy from day one. I dunno, read something.

AND BTW even though I do find it personally annoying to hear all of you whining about how hard it is to be a white person, the ONLY reason I think it’s annoying is because you’re using that to dismiss legitimate calls for equity from other groups that are LONG OVERDUE. I am aware you have legitimate grievances, they just aren’t related to your race. ALL OF US have been pooped on by the ruling class. Your enemy is NOT people of color. Your enemy is rich sociopaths that think you don’t deserve healthcare, food, shelter, and ANY BASIC NEEDS while they go out and buy their fifteenth megayacht.

    No war but class war

If you’re bothered by waste you might want to take a closer look at what they actual do to animals in the meat/dairy/egg industries.

Lol thinking the democrats want to help people and not just their wealthy donors. Trump is garbage and obviously needs to go, no argument there, but stop pretending the democrats are anything other than the centrist wing of the republican party. They are owned by corporate interests just as much as the republicans, but it’s their brand to pretend they care about us. We HAVE to talk about the failures of the democrats or they’re just gonna keep being garbage bags.
