In case you haven’t been paying attention, US GDP projected to fall 38%, US unemployment is already in the mid-teens, so I’ll take those relatively muted Swedish statistics over ours any day.
Swedes aren’t “staying home”, they’re going about their business with reasonable precautions, just as we would. I don’t believe that your presumption that US citizens would behave otherwise is accurate. In fact, most everyone has been sheltering in place as directed.
Finally, regarding the article, the specific citation was directed to an article published on May 11th. There was none. The article you referenced is exactly the article from which I drew the Geisecke quote, which was published on the 12th. In that article there was a comparison between the Swedish response and the British response, with much back and forth about which was the better one and acknowledging mistakes in both instances.
Please leave your smug attitude at the door. Pay attention. Listen. You’ve a lot to learn.
Cactus-Pete- nice fake. Name a source and a date, but no actual article. Swedes made the right choice and know it. The only issue was that they failed to lock down nursing homes (which account for 50% of the dead). Same mistake everyone made.
Solitha- thanks for providing the quote:
“Johan Giesecke, Sweden’s former chief epidemiologist who is now a health adviser to the World Health Organization, told Business Insider that while Sweden’s relaxed policy had not yet been successful in curbing its COVID-19 outbreak, it would in the future.”
“Americans can just be plain stupid” Yup. You just proved it…
