Columbus Washboard Company is still in business. They’re now located in Logan, Ohio. I discovered this while researching a board my Great-grandmother had given me as a child last month. I’m now bugging the other half to go visit.

The sad thing is, even if papers increase their funny pages, they’re killing themselves in other ways. Besides the consolidation and loss of local news, the prices they charge for other items are becoming cost prohibitive. I do genealogy, and had noticed less and less paper obituaries. It wasn’t until my father passed I figured out why. To place an obituary, locally, would be between $350-$500 per paper. Very few still do free and if they do its likely just a death notice. Major cities charge up to $2000. People figured out it was cheaper to just let the funeral home website publish it, or post on social media. Classified ads aren’t cheap either. And as subscribers decline, the fees will only increase. The industry has put itself into a viscous cycle.

My dad realized I could read roadsigns at the age of 4, when I pointed out to him he missed the exit. :)

I’m Gen X and I know the stamps were still around in the early to mid eighties since mom was still saving them. We had 2 sets going, one from Piggly Wiggly and whatever chain Big Star dealt with. I’ve found some this month cleaning out her house and have found books of them my husband’s grandparents had stashed at their house as well as their last WWII ration book. As for dishes, we collect vintage kitchenware and I use our Fire King, Anchor Hocking, Corning Ware and Pyrex often.

I’ll have to check that thread. Had a mustang take out a house Friday. Got a good 2 feet above the foundation when it embedded in the wall, must’ve been airborne.

In Indy, the buildings seem to jump out in front of people. Usually at least once a month, one gets an "unsuspecting " car. They’re in competition for a news slot with all the overturning semis.
