Which is why business interests has have a hand in promoting war. For example during WW1 when it was first unclear if USA should be involved. But probably more despicable are the religious groups that have been involved in demonizing the opposite side and coaching their members to join the armed forces.

I guess without a speaker U.S. can also not formally declare war on any one or thing? And that this situation might make Russia feel more empowered(?)

If our current civilization ever dies and leaves behind a bunch of stop-signs, some future archeologists will likely believe that they had a religious meaning. Why else are there so many of them on every road…

“Putin simply weaponized the Orthodox hierarchy”
Said hierarchy could simply have declined the honor and informed their congregants that the church was against the war and if congregants wanted to support it, they would get excommunicated. Or something along those lines. But the church has just continued to bless the weapons on Russian side like as if there is no issue whatsoever.
Even funnier, there are Russian Orthodox (meaning those consider themselves as being under the Moscow patriarchate) people also in Ukraine. Maybe they pray to God to grant victory to Ukraine. While those in Russia pray to God grant victory to Russia.

But think that the Greek Orthodox patriarch is justifying all this crap. What happened to Jesus’ words of loving thy neighbour?

This was observed already about 3000 years ago (well, about 1000 B.C.) in Ecclesiastes 8:9 where king Solomon wrote that“All of this I have seen, and I applied my heart to every work that has been done under the sun, during the time that man has dominated man to his harm.”
Man’s domination over man has not resulted in lasting good for the subjects.
Other things I like from the Ecclesiastes is 8:11:“Because sentence against a bad deed has not been executed speedily, the heart of men becomes emboldened to do bad.”
(To me that shows that human nature and willingness to mistreat others for personal gain has not changed much)
And Ecclesiastes 9:11“I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all.”
Also the current situation will never get better without everyone’s willingness to compromise and forgiveness.
