Yes. I know. In fact, “me” comes right from Latin. Puer et Puella audint Materm. (rather than Mater, which is the nominative).

If that were true, every single woman would be mindlessly participating. Talking about “societies’ norms,” while not 100% false, is a bit of an overstatement. Personally, I never saw the point of beauty contests/miss America at all. Even though society has these norms, women know what they are doing when they participate, just like women know what they are doing when they are engaging in porn, just like women know what they are doing when they become C.E.Os Their body, their choice. Society makes the job seem “glamorous.” I think it is silly. But to say “society forces women” into showing off their body for money is absurd. It is true that sex sells, and they know it. Instead of blaming society (and patriarchy), interview those women to find out what made them go into fashion. They all have free will.
“A woman is doing it, a man is enjoying it, thus it is ‘bad’.” I guess I am sexist for enjoying Carrie Underwood then. Even though she hardly objectifies herself.

Doesn’t Stephan live near LA, where all those “sensitivity speech” rallies were going on?
