Virtual Reality is still real life. It’s just playing with different toys. ;-)

True. Educated people are hardly immune to believing stupid things; they’re simply better equipped to defend their beliefs, whether right or wrong.

You can still use “woke” as a verb rather than inventing new conjugations. The form which you are avoiding is an adjective, and frankly makes the grammarian in me cringe as well. ;-)

I am absolutely sure that he will do so in a heartbeat if he thinks it will help him. But he’ll protect them until then, saving them against the day when he can throw them under a different bus.

Finally, food service workers have the upper hand in negotiation with their employers. ;-) And some restaurants are realizing this means they can’t treat them as disposable anymore.

It’s not all the Palestinians on the left (just as it is not all Israelis on the right). It is specifically Hamas and Netanyahu, who both reinforce their political clout by showing off how tough and strong they are while pointing at the other as an existential threat to their people. “You need me and my willingness to take out the other guy or that other guy is going to kill you.”

Hamas is opposed to peace; their central mission is vengeance, and it is not surprising that this is overwhelmingly popular while people are seeing their homes destroyed so easily. As you say, they are at their breaking point. Netanyahu’s strategy is similar to the ancient Roman strategy of decimation as punishment; if you can’t identify the culprit, just kill 10% of everybody, in hopes of turning them against one another while making them too afraid to fight back. The Germans tried this in occupied territory as well during WWII. It’s not very effective; it only gives them more reason to fight.

Millennia. The mideast is commonly called the cradle of civilisation; people have been claiming land, fighting over landing, seizing land, etc in that general area since before recorded history.

It’s going to be a while yet before the masks are obsolete for everyday use. Sure, in much of the US we have an enviable vaccination rate, but much of the rest of the world is not so fortunate. India is on the verge of catastrophe. Some of the most densely populated places on Earth are struggling to vaccinate even a fraction of the population. Therefore, masks remain the only practical option for control in most of the world.

So, masking is phasing out in the US . . . but we should count our blessings and help the rest of the world join us in making this true everywhere. After all, we don’t want any country to become a reservoir for covid-19 or worse, an incubator for worse strains.

Something like the old signs McDonald’s restaurants used to have, periodically updating the number of burgers that had been served?
