    Firstly, agave are not even closely related to cacti. Agave are of the plant family Asparagaceae. Cacti are of the plant family Cactaceae. Secondly, Agave americana (common names include sentry plant and century plant) lives only 10 to 30 years. Thirdly, although Agave americana is semelparous, it also reproduces asexually from adventitious shoots, making each plant genetically persistent, so, if you want to wax poetic, maybe speculate on the potential genetic immortality of each Agave americana specimen.
