We bought our first home in 1981 & rates were over 17%. The lender actually pushed the closing back waiting on a rate hike as their points went down when our interest rose. Our current mortgage (different house) is 2.5% and we could just pay it off, but we are making a decent interest on our money right now, so see no reason to pay it off.
