IIRC – There are significant differences in the rules. Google rugby league vs rugby union and go to the wiki page. The differences are spelled out in the Gameplay section. Daughter played Rugby in college (Prop, Div III East Coast school) They were DIII Champs three out of the four years. Wife and I only missed one match. We’ve Grown to love the game. I’ve never been so proud of and so frightened for my daughter at the same time. Every April, they have “The Beast of the East” tournament near Newport, RI. Billed as the largest Collegiate rugby tournament in the world. Always had a blast. The parade of EMT vehicles was always fun, though.
