   Okay, Nerdster here. Cwen is an Old English word for queen. This was also the name of the honorary organization at my college of upperclass women who helped with orienting freshmen women. They had cute red blazers with a crown embroidered on one of the pockets. Freshmen men only had fraternities.

   Love the Ring. Beautiful music, even if Wagner was a bigot and a favorite of Nazis. I’ve loved some of the Met’s stage craft (the dragon!), and some European productions in modern dress—Valkyries as women police officers with plexiglass riot shields. It’s an acquired taste if you did not grow up listening to it. I LOVE ballet and realized that as the movement and music carry the drama in dance, the music, both sung and played carries the drama in opera. That made it easier. Also Baroque opera is sometimes easier to get into.

   I had to make a similar decision in October last year for my 22-year old Pansy who had oral cancer. I know you loved Ping Pong enough to give that final gift. Let yourself mourn as long as you need to. Insensitive people may say “it’s just a cat,” but we all know the death of our beloved pet is the death of a family member. Lots of love
