Technically, from the view we have in both panels 1 and 2, we can’t be absolutely certain the applicable components of the refrigerator are not actually outside. While not common, it’s not impossible.
The story seems plausible for everything except the IN the litterbox part. I’m trying to picture George straddling a litter box, and it ain’t happening. Retrieving the offending materials from a receptacle with plenty of protection covering the hands seems like a much more likely scenario. If the litter box is brought next to the receptacle, the time spent on the task (and enduring the smell) would be minimal.
Many a Sunday Monty’s fate has resulted in his isolation on a deserted island, being eaten by various entities, and succumbing to various diseases and psychoses. Sunday’s stories should not be viewed as anything other than an alternate universe with no restrictions – unconnected to any other days’ storyline – and often quite the contrast. It should also be noted that some people only enjoy the Sunday version of the comic, so having the storyline simply continue via the daily logical flow would often be difficult if not impossible to make sense as a standalone to the weekly reader. The additional panels also helps a complete story to develop and close on a single page.
