Long time lurker here, just a bit public forum-shy. But I wanted to offer my condolences, Georgia. I just lost my dad on 11/16 and I found myself going to familiar things as comfort, including your comic archives. Thank you for all these years of smiles, they really mean a lot especially right now.

I’m not a fan of iced black or green tea, but there’s a combination of herbal “teas” (technically tisanes, I know) that I drink iced all during the spring and summer to maintain proper hydration without getting bored of water. 2:1 ratio of Celestial Seasonings Orange Tangerine Zinger and Wildberry Zinger tea bags, cold brew overnight in the fridge. Even unsweetened, the smell and taste is reminiscent of fruit punch! Several of my water-hating friends swear by this, I’ve gotten hugs for teaching them the ways of the Fruit Punch Tea!

Of course Ora Zella would go for it, she has to assert dominance! And since flowers are a plant’s reproductive structures, it’s her way of telling that darn cactus “I WILL END YOUR BLOODLINE!”

I got one of the first Wii consoles when it released in 2006. My dad saw me playing Wii Bowling and asked how accurate it could be. I didn’t say a word, just “threw the ball” and let him watch it ride the right gutter for 2/3 of the lane before toppling into the gutter with no pins knocked over. Just as I often did with real bowling. His only words were “So… very accurate.” My parents, sister, and I greatly enjoyed playing together as a family!

Also, genetic cholesterol plays a huge part in whether or not you can be vegan. If the cholesterol your body produces is too low or the wrong kind, there are NO vegan products to supplement it through dietary cholesterol. All dietary cholesterol has to come from animal products. And as much as LDL and triglycerides are to be feared, we do need HDL in order for multiple parts of our bodies to function properly. We’re basically organic machines, if anything is out of balance we are in trouble.

It also frustrates me when the vegans become so militant that they try to force veganism on obligate carnivores like cats. They literally CANNOT be vegan. I have zero issues with responsible veganism and I enjoy a lot of vegan foods, but some people take it way too far and ruin the reputation of all vegans, which is sad.

My 45th birthday is coming up soon and I’m more amused by the thought than anything. Worrying about it will just give you more wrinkles!

That was one of my favorite things to eat when I visited France, which is saying something because there was a LOT of incredible food. And one of the best grilled ham and cheese sandwiches I ever had was with Iberian ham and manchego on a really lovely sourdough with a bit of sweet-hot dijon mustard. Iberian ham is expensive and hard to get in the US but oh wow it’s really good. A quality prosciutto isn’t a bad substitute, though.

I don’t even like WEARING white or off-white. It gets dingy and dirty so easily, and it’s not like anybody’s walking on me! My mom had this pale peach carpet installed in the living room and DINING ROOM back in the 1990s and nobody was allowed in those rooms to “keep the carpet looking nice.” The adults (never the young kids) only used the dining room for special occasions, and each time I was holding my breath, waiting for someone to spill wine or gravy…

Got a book on the art of Japan (from prehistoric to modern graphic design and anime) while I was in college, despite me not being in the class. Loved it. I also read psychology books and general medical dictionaries because they’re good research materials for writing sci-fi.

I hate flying and will only do it if I absolutely HAVE to. But I take the train to Washington DC annually for an anime convention and it is far better than driving. 2 hours of smooth, motion sickness-free travel with Wifi and bathrooms versus 3-5 hours (especially during the return trip… summer traffic!) of driving? No contest there.
