Many years ago I ordered a “medium hot coffee, black” at a fancy coffee shop in a tourist area. The guy handed it to me and said, “No charge.” He’d been dealing with the “grande frappacchino soy milk two pumps of caramel” crowd all day, and a simple order was a relief.
The brilliance of Willey’s work is the character on the sidewalk, staring a the car. We can relate, and it pulls us in. Otherwise it’s just a sight gag.
Went through our coin jar the other day and found a 1941 US nickel, along with Canadian nickels from 1949 & 1936. The latter had King George V, Elizabeth’s grandfather.
