Yes, that has been a problem with Democrats using “Medicare for All”, the presumption is that the single payer system would be inadequate coverage. There is no reason the coverage would not be made comprehensive.
The conservative report on the cost of a single payer system took into account the system paying for all of the care provided now, which would be comprehensive coverage, and would save $200 billion a year, at least.
You don’t understand how single payer works. Someone mentioned the fire department as being the same thing, and they are right. You are taxed an appropriate amount, and the health care covered by the single payer system would be provided. There would be no denying treatment, just as the government makes no decisions to not go to anyone’s house fire. Not paying your taxes would be a different issue, you still get health care, but you just have to deal with fines and jail time for tax evasion. Just as not paying your real estate taxes doesn’t stop the fire department coming to your emergency.
