The wise man points to the stars, and the idiot only looks at the finger.

One truth I’ve heard… is that one of our greatest powers in life… is how we decide to spend our money. Let’s keep buying “real” cheese and sustain their business models, and not fall for the sirens of cheapness… Easy to say as long as I (or we) can afford it, for sure. Other things we could do would probably take far too long to write down, as it would need to get even far more “political” than that… The problem is also very much about big companies using and abusing their relationship with legislators to pass very harsh sanitary regulations, that simply aim to destroy all small competitors… Thus it’s about ultraliberalism and, of course, capitalism… I wont go further down this rabbit hole under a C&H strip ;-)

… why would you make it about you, and why would you presume that I would be american? I’m not, I live and was born in Belgium. Tons of fine cheese from all over Europe here, all the best types, my favorite Old Pecorino with grains of pepper… But that was not really the point, was it? The point is that the process I describe is happening worldwide anyway, and most “true cheese” is replaced in most shops by those “fake cheese”, whether in US, Belgium, Spain, Italy, or any other part of the world. I agree very much, life (or at least, eating) would be worse without (real) cheese…

When you know that most of what is called “cheese” today has never even been remotely in “contact” with a living animal, does not contain any milk cream, and is just plainly synthetic… In other words, it’s not even cheese AT ALL. Taste is supposed to come from milk fat… which there isnt in this process… But hey, it’s cheap… T_T

I hear you. But at least we didnt have the utterly “intelligence-insulting” TV-reality shows, back then, just to name one thing. Such a crass concept, such constant utter mediocrity… And there’s far worse to watch than “House of the Dragon” imho! But it’s definitely a cash-grab based on the success of GoT, and not terribly interesting afaik, no argument. Not every show can be as good as Better Call Saul, Rome, South Park, Bands of Brothers, True Detective, Chernobyl, Narcos… to name a few of my favorites.

To my knowledge (as a foreign speaker), “being a thing” means that something is popular and well-known. Thus I would insist, and reiterate : no, the internet wasnt a thing in 1993. I never argued that it hadnt been in existence for quite some time.

From what I read and discover about it, it was a FEMA test, nationwide, US-only. I believe you might have confused the W from “Wireless” into “Worldwide”. “Wireless Emergency Alert”. We didnt get that in the EU (I’m belgian btw). We already have multiple alert levels but nothing as “nationwide wireless” afaik (…yet, I guess). But yes, trying to picture that moment, it must have been a serious mess for sure, and possibly quite anxiogenic if one didnt know about it beforehand. It also raises quite a few questions but I guess those will be dismissed with the convenient arguments of “security+safety”.
