Pizza. A local pizza parlor opened on Thanksgiving as an alternative to people who didn’t want to cook or didn’t want turkey. They also opened on Christmas for the same reason. They did good business on both days.
Several years ago (October 23, 2009) the New York Times ran a fun article about mixed metaphors called “All Roads Gather No Moss. A Rolling Stone Leads to Rome.”
The United States is a country. All fifty states have agreed to abide by the Constitution and to follow federal law. While the Constitution does not specifically prohibit a state from seceding, remember what happened last time that was tried in 1861. That said, states do have a significant amount of power to legislate their state separate from the federal government.
Clarification: The Senate is weighted to give smaller states a fair hand and is often considered the branch of Congress that is the “Wisdom of the Ages”. The House of Representatives is based on population, giving more populous states more influence and is perceived as more raucous (though it may not be).
Clearly this was a sheeplechase race.
