A number of people with incorrect opinions jumped to the conclusion that I’m wrong without really thinking through anything? I guess I have to walk back my comment now. btw, remind me who was recently elected president overwhelmingly because the average american doesn’t know what a tariff is?
Now, since the stupids are out in full force, I better explain with an essay-long comment more detail about my post and then stop replying, before I violate GoComics policy for deviating too much from the strip. Heart sees a person of colour trying to open a door to an apartment and assumes it’s a robber. You know what that reminds me of? Karens (or Kevins for the male variety) who stop a black person in a nice neighbourhood to ask, “Do you live here? Show me your ID.” A lot of whites have trouble with NOT assuming the worst of POCs and immigrants in general (WHO was elected president in 2024?).
I’m the one pointing out that it’s a bad look that she’s made this connection. I’m the one seeing this association and saying, “Um, are you sure about this, Heart?” That’s not racist; that’s concern that a racism is currently happening.
Now, is that what Steenz is actually going for? Probably not. My comment was mostly in jest, yet it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for Steenz to explore the concept of racial bias in a story. It also wouldn’t be the first time the subject of race came up in the reboot, as Heart was once concerned about being labelled as Charlotte’s “white friend”. It’s a little out of place to be in the middle of an xmas storyline, but as a soy leftist, I’d be down for it.
It’s not wrong to educate children about racism. They WILL encounter it in their lives, like it or not, so prepping them in advance through accessible kids’ stories is a good, not a bad. It sucks that christopher stupido succeeded in demonizing CRT in america, but that’s life.
Anyway, that’s that. Have fun getting mad, ya little scamps, and see ya tomorrow!
