I remember a couple of years ago when Key West was predicted to be inundated with storm surge. I shared with many a deep concern for the cats that lived at Hemingway’s house. The lady who lived there assured us that they would be fine as cats have an uncanny ability to find safe places, but I thought she was just trying to placate us because we couldn’t do anything for them. The island was in fact inundated, yet the cats survived – many didn’t even get wet.
I live alone so when I make something that calls for celery I don’t make enough to use the whole bunch. But I learned that it can be mixed with onions and carrots to use as a base for stews as many have noted here. I have frozen my leftover celery in mirepoix and used that in later recipes
There is a device called a Hoyer lift that is used to help lift patients. It will make moving your mom quite easy. The physical therapist will help you get one. I lurk on this site daily and am very fond of everyone in the orb.
I too suffer from chronic depression and I can’t imagine how people managed to deal with it when it was untreatable and unmentionable. You do the world an important service by talking about it. You also unleash the support of this amazing group of fans. I wish you all the best.
