   I forgot poor Betty’s motivation- getting Archie away from Veronica.

    I read Archie as a kid and through my mid-teens; I will be 83 in a couple of weeks. During that time nothing like this ever came up.

    Archie’s concerns were Veronica and Betty, and not getting in trouble with Mr Weatherbee, Jughead’s with hamburgers, Veronica with herself and her money; Reggie could maybe be compared to “Eddie” in Leave it to Beaver (although he was a lot worse). Miss Grundy was— Miss Grundy.

    Nothing of a serious nature was ever brought up.
