Or perhaps the statistic is flawed for it only looks at employed/unemployed. People who have used up their savings and now are taking any menial/part time job they can find count as employed, even though they’re not able to pay their bills with that job. No-one ever talks about underemployment, which when you consider that, makes all those new jobs seem less enticing. Furthermore, unemployment statistics only consider people looking for work… if you give up looking and decide to just live with your parents, you’re no longer considered unemployed, you’re “not in the labor force.”
