I was always used to daily strips being black and white and Sunday strips being colored—and was shocked when I was in college in the late 1980s to find that the Orlando Sentinel printed daily strips in color. A friend told me that growing up in St Louis in the 1970s, the Post-Dispatch printed daily comics in color. No idea if the syndicates provided them in color, or the newspapers did their own coloring.

The used car salesman shouldn’t be seen as a dropped character—that was a snapshot showing how the Milford High athletic department was scrambling to make up lost funding. That budget cut is the plot device that leads to the vape sales.

I knew high school kids who thought drinking a lot of water would dilute alcohol they had drunk.

A person may choose to use “they” as a personal pronoun because they don’t feel defined as male or female—refusing to accept the gender binary. This has nothing to with their own anatomy or biology; someone might say they are non-binary and still happily bear and nurse children, for example. So Keri isn’t transgender, but non-binary.

“Faceless bureaucrats” is a pretty cheap take on a local school district’s administration. Anyone working for very long as a department head/head coach/principal would know the district personnel responsible for their budgets.

It’s just possible that this isn’t Milford’s own game tape, but a recording of a local TV station’s highlights/recap show. Unlike college programs with big libraries of game film, a high school program back in the day might just record Friday Night Football after the 11 o’clock news for some scouting of other teams.

How old is Gil supposed to be? It’s one thing for a former student to show up with a 15-year-old son, but for him to have been coaching for 35 years? He’s a little old to have such young children.
I find it more annoying that he says “first scheduled game of the season.” Was there an earlier, unscheduled game?
