Fun fact! This is an example of Jon Davis’ frequent problematic stereotypes, equating Italian-American’s with mob intimidation tactics. Many of your Italian-American friends have no connection with the Mafia, for instance they could be car mechanics or own a pizza restaurant! Keep on Garfin’!

Fun Fact! 1981 had many notable events for Garfield to look forward to, from the attempted assassinations of Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, to Mark David Chapman found guilty of the successful assassination of John Lennon! Luckily President Reagan stayed alive long enough to sign the secret deals that started the Iran-Contra Crisis, and see the first documented cases of AIDS! Truly a time to be alive, keep on Garfin’!

Fun fact! This is not blackmail, blackmail involves coercing someone to give you money or some other benefit in return for not disseminating compromising or damaging information. For example, if Garfield were to demand Jon’s roast chicken under threat of telling his mother about his habit of guzzling dog semen while sexually harassing the veterinarian, that would constitute blackmail. Keep on Garfin’!

Fun fact! It is inadvisable to eat cornstarch directly out of the box, as, like other raw foods, cornstarch may contain harmful bacteria. It’s also low nutrient-and high-calorie. If you find yourself craving large amounts of raw cornstarch you should see a doctor, as this is a symptom of Pica, and could be caused by a nutritional deficiency. Keep on Garfin’!

Perhaps sadistic psychological treatment like this by his parents is what drove cartoonist Jon Arbuckle to masochism. He continues the cycle of abuse by goading Garfield into committing violence against him, because leaving his parents left a hole he needs filled with any other kind of abuse. This has warped Garfield into a violent creature who can only be his true self in private with Pookie. Keep on Garfin’!

This was very an intentional and sadistic move by Lyman. This is why he is ‘snickering’, in reference to a half-suppressed, typically scornful laugh, not the popular candy bar. Keep on Garfin’!

Here, Liz accidentally reveals too much and tried to backpedal with a joke. The fact of the matter is, cartoonist Jon Arbuckle is an aggressive man who has never shown respect for boundaries with Liz, or Garfield. She feels threatened by him and is right to do so. Another fun fact, many Liz comics follow this exact same format, in both positioning and general dialogue. For a good example, go back to April 21, 1980! Keep on Garfin’!

Fun fact! Jim Davis heard the cries of the people over this strip, and addressed this dichotomy only a week later, on July 27, 1980! Keep on Garfin’!

Fats and sodium most likely. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US with over 23% of all deaths listing it as the cause.
Fun fact! As easy as it might look, birds have many evolutionary mechanisms to help them, with very specific wing shape, feathers, and hollow bones. If a cat like Garfield were to fly, it would most likely be first class instead! Keep on Garfin’!
