I have collected comics for many years including a few from the 1940s. Always interested in learning more about Mickey Finn and Nippie, The Nutt Brothers and Ella Cinders.

As a senior citizen and retired teacher, I well know the importance of letting students know that the easy way is not always the best way. I had a 7th grade World History teacher — Miss Thornell — whose methods were demanding but also presented in a way that made me eager to learn. Many years later I was privileged to tell her how much she had meant to me then and even more now as I love history — though I was a “B” student in her class. This meant a lot to her, and it was she who was touched . Things learned as teenagers come back to enrich our lives later. I’m happy I have been able to express my appreciation to my teachers while they are still alive to know that their work wa fertile seed.

So then – “The longer I wait, the better I get” – after maybe 6 hours I will be automatically cured and can forget about seeing the doctor — money saved!

Well, I’ve loved M&J for over 60 years, so THERE. Ms.GJB, take THAT! lol Pearls Before Swine had a similar retort a few years ago. One of the characters wrote a complaint to McDonald’s, and another said “What good is that? There’s no one there who cares.” Then the last panel showed the Ronald McDonald clown with the letter and tears running down his face.

I am stuck on #1 and #3 also but feel certain #3 must be from some Dickens work.

DRSRISINGER has hit the nail on the head! It is so wonderful that such medical miracles are available to our beloved animals now. I have two rat terriers obtained from a rescue site . One has chronic liver problems and the other had eye surgery as a pup. They are my “babies” now that my family is grown and gone. I had to sit down and shed some tears today with my “Dude” in my arms –the cartoon really touched me that much. There are photos of my pets and me on my flickr – “stoppuller.” Go look. It proves that there is good buried deep in every person – regardless of how embarrased they would be if everyone knew!

This is too beautiful! Cagney is NOT a young dog from a past episode when Mom and Zach were discussing how long that breed of dog usually lives and the answer was about 12 years. Then both persons wept. I guess they were realizing what we all know – that out beloved pets are mortal, too.
