My daughter has an older son and two younger children - a boy and a girl ( 15 & 16.5 year old). the two younger ones have been close since infancy and still (as of just last weekend) love to spend time together as well as separately with their friends. The extra special part is that they seem to really enjoy spending time with their grandma, too. When they are not in school, I take them for a week at a time and we always have a great time.
I have held many jobs including math/science high school teacher for 25 years, research biologist in biochemical genetics and molecular biology and twice as a secretary. I felt all my jobs were very worthwhile and actually my most prestigious (and best paid) one as a researcher was the one I would be least missed as a valuable contributor to the smooth functioning of the organization. I always get acquainted with all the service people wherever I work, as they are the ones that keep the organization moving smoothly and efficiently and the ones that are most indispensable.
Gigantor - I am afraid I have to disagree with you. She is perfectly relaxed and happy all the while doing the office multitasking. It is John’s assumption that this is difficult and a burden to her by wondering if she is already swamped and needing a break shows that he has no comprehension of the life as a housewife and mother. I both worked and had the full responsibility of the home and kids and I do know full well which is the most demanding.
This is a very accurate portrayal of how I found life to be in those days. Of course, I bought into it and was an enabler, so contributed to it s well. I had a PhD and was a research biologist and was constantly subjected to discrimination in the workplace, financial arena and society in general. We camped often with 3 kids and often babies. My father-in-law was a saint. One day, as he headed out to the boat for more fishing and my husband started to join him, he said “No, you stay back with the kids. Kay is coming with me! She needs to so something besides work and should have some fun, too.” I did and had a wonderful afternoon and evening. After that, I got a little more sharing from my husband, at least when his parents were around.
AH, Pern! I love it and all the books. I have a copy of every book. and look forward to more. I even had some personal correspondence with A. Mc. I wrote to the editor and she responded herself at length.
Congratulations GreenTick!
