I’m definitely with Jane. I just somehow thought that America was better than this. And I was wrong. Not completely wrong – Hillary did get the popular vote, barely – but wrong enough. I feel like I need to apologize to the entire civilized world.
I first started reading this strip when the young girl with cancer was a major character. I loved that girl and her edge, and I loved the interplay with her and the other characters. Now she’s gone, and the strip has become a one lame joke run. This is so sad when it was so much more. Now I click on it once in a while hoping for a change. Christy
Yes, the operator was professional and calm. And she went on to answer all the other desperate calls that come through on a 911 board. I don’t think anyone actually believes she should be ignoring a heart attack, a stroke, a fire, a burglary, just to give “comfort” to a woman who is safe and will have a cop with her in short order.
I am really disappointed, Mr. Oliphant. I made a point of listening to the dispatch audio after hearing a number of disparaging remarks. The dispatcher was professional and calm. She made sure she had the right address, since a different one showed for the phone, she got a cop there really quickly, and made sure the caller had other people around and would talk to the police. Then she went on to the hundreds of other calls she’s getting daily, all of whom want her professional attention NOW. Was she supposed to ignore a heart attack to stay with a caller who was safe? Too many people want this dispatcher to be enacting her own little reality drama instead of doing her job. Hysteria and emoting do not help the callers.
