    Although it was indeed the second in terms of production order, “Where No man Has Gone Before” was the third broadcast after “The Man Trap” and “Charlie X.” “The Man Trap” was 6 and “Charlie X” was 8. If you ever get a chance, watch them in order. You’ll see where the idea of red shirts always getting killed and Grace Lee Whitney being a more important character than she really was. In the first cast, toward the middle of the first season several episodes where red shirts died on away missions were clumped together although they were not produced that way. As far as Grace Lee Whitney goes the episodes she acted in were produced early on but spread out throughout the season giving the impression that she was on the Enterprise doing other things until Kirk needed a Yeoman..

    The inspiration for the “Southern Cross” flag was the St. Andrews cross flag of Scotland (although that flag was white on Royal Blue) because Scottish rebelion against England. Namely Willian Wallace (a.k.a. Braveheart.)
