Johnathan, back where you and I came from, there was only two channels when I was growing up. You, probably 4 but without BBC2, we would never have had Monty Python

I’m old enough to remember when we had four channels to watch and we would sit through commercials then pay cable came along with the promise of more channels without commercials. Soon cable had more commercials than regular tv! And now we have “pay” streaming sites that are supposed to be free of commercials but run “previews” of their shows constantly, soon they will start with ads but still charge to view them-can’t win!

As I was growing up in southeastern Oklahoma there was “ONE” station, out of Ada, (KTEN) and you needed a 50-foot antenna for that. (You could sometimes get a snowy WKY-TV out of Oklahoma City at night, but you had to manually rotate the antenna for that), and dad wouldn’t let us do that often.

When we moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and we got TWO CHANNELS, and we were in “hog heaven” – I seem to remember that one of the stations used to carry programs from the third network once in a while (ABC) but not very often. If we had PBS, eventually, it must have been a UHF station and required a special antenna, which dad refused to get (no sports).

We didn’t get FOUR channels until we moved to New Mexico and got them from the Albuquerque broadcast towers atop Sandia Crest (10,679 feet) – didn’t need anything but a set of “rabbit ears” from then on! (Apropos this comic strip.)

Everyone’s TV should be an access port for ALL TV service providers. Each specific show and movie should be available for purchase a la carte.

None of this ‘1001 different and entirely separate streaming vendors’ nonsense.

We are divided on par with 1859 USA or say 1933 in Germany kind of divided. Us and the extremists who want power.
