    Gentrification is alright so long as the community can afford it. Round these parts, over half of those $250K condos sit dark and empty and most of the first floor businesses rotate in and out like so many pages in a flipbook.

    Yep, instead of the store only hiring 2-3 family members they employee about 20-30 people regardless of who they’re related to. Instead of having no benefits they now have medical coverage and their uniforms are paid for and provided by the business. Also, everything’s cheaper now so you have more money to spend at more businesses. Anyone who thinks this sort of change is bad needs to experience what it’s like to be a poor person in a small town with no relatives.

    Somehow we seem to be tuned to different news sources. You are missing the ones about places which hire 100s of people but find ways not to provide decent salaries much less medical coverage.

    Read part timer at an box store.
