Boy 1: Has your dad ever nailed you reaching back between the car seats to swat you? Boy 2: Naw. Boy 1: Me either. I think the car companies make it so kids in the back seat are just out of reach. Boy 2: Yeah. They were young once, too.
Interesting. . . because when I was a kid, cars were larger than now, meaning there was more space in the backseat in which a kid could scurry to a “corner,” supposedly to avoid Dad’s reach - yet my dad could smack us. I don’t recall that his arms were abnormally long! ;)

Ah, the days of bench seats with no head rests. More room to swing the arm and get the good backhand going.

i remember the neighbor lady with 7 kids and a station wagon. she kept a long stick in the wagon.
